Start your journey with 1729 Maths School, a pioneering school for the brightest mathematical minds, based in North London.

Maths is at the heart of everything we do at 1729. Our students study maths deeply, with more than eight hours of timetabled maths each week and two and a half hours of maths-related activities outside the main timetable. By contrast, students at other secondary schools typically have no more than four hours each week.
Our approach to teaching maths is unique among UK schools, combining classroom teaching and university-style learning. National exams are covered thoroughly, but always within a richer, more connected programme that cultivates deep mathematical understanding and intuition.
From age 11, students are encouraged to think, question and create like mathematicians. They learn from outstanding teachers, participate in maths circles and competitions, and work with mathematicians from top universities. Small class sizes mean that we know every student personally and understand how best to challenge and inspire them.
We are committed to supporting the most promising young mathematicians on a meritocratic basis, therefore our admissions are selective and need-blind. Bursaries can be hard to access at some schools but if 1729 Maths School is right for your child, we will work with you to ensure that fees do not stand in their way.
Up to £2.4 million is available each year to fund full and partial bursaries for a wide range of income levels. Bursaries will be awarded to students following an assessment of the need of a student and their family. Once a bursary has been awarded, the funding is committed for every year that the student remains at 1729.
Our ability to fund this bursary programme has been enabled by a major philanthropic donation from Alex and Elena Gerko, which covers the cost of developing the school and all available bursaries for students.

At 1729 Maths School, students can board from Year 7 onwards, as either weekly or full boarders. Boarders live and learn alongside one another, experiencing a warm, “home away from home” atmosphere, and building a strong and collaborative community. By sharing daily life and study, boarders develop teamwork, independence and confidence, as they tackle challenges together.
Boarders are part of a close-knit 1729 community, while also belonging to the wider Belmont and Mill Hill School boarding family. Mill Hill has four boarding houses that are home to over 220 boarders, and are led by dedicated housemasters and housemistresses, and their experienced teams.
Alongside their academic studies, we encourage our students to immerse themselves in the enormous range of extra-curricular activities available through Belmont and Mill Hill. These range from team sports including rugby, netball, hockey and cricket to individual pursuits such as swimming and fitness. The schools have excellent facilities including an all-weather pitch, a large sports complex and an indoor swimming pool.
There are also many opportunities in music and drama. Students can learn instruments, take part in performances in our theatre and join orchestras, ensembles, bands and choirs. Activities and clubs will not only help students to explore their interests, but also to foster confidence, self-esteem and a strong sense of belonging.
