At the 1729 Maths School we want our pupils to leave with world-class mathematical skills alongside a fully rounded education, friends for life and a host of happy memories.
The 1729 Maths School pupils will follow a separate academic pathway for maths to their peers at Mill Hill and Belmont, with at least twice the normal teaching time for maths alongside a full maths enrichment programme. Our sequenced and connected maths curriculum will develop world-class mathematical talent in a deeply immersive environment that will be both challenging and discussion-based.
For non-maths-related subjects and extra-curricular activities, our pupils will join their peers at Belmont and Mill Hill School. This will provide a wonderful opportunity to pursue music, sport and other activities they enjoy and to make a wider network of friends for life.
Alongside the dedicated pastoral team at 1729 Maths School, our pupils will benefit from the exceptional pastoral care available across Belmont and Mill Hill School.
Pupils joining in Year 7 will spend two years at Belmont before moving to Mill Hill School for Year 9. As a group of schools, we believe a child who feels happy and safe in their environment will flourish, and we place the utmost importance on safeguarding their welfare and well-being. Belmont upholds the values Be Kind, Be Brave, Be You. These principles guide Belmont's pastoral curriculum, led by a dedicated team of form tutors who serve as the first point of contact for both pupils and parents.
When a 1729 Maths School pupil joins us in Year 9, they become part of a warm and supportive community that understands the unique challenges of adolescence. At Mill Hill School, pastoral care is centred around the House system, comprising Day Houses and Boarding Houses.
All 1729 Maths School pupils will be part of a dedicated House. Each House at Mill Hill School is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, supported by a team of Tutors who work closely together to create a nurturing environment. This team gets to know each pupil personally and maintains close communication with families to provide comprehensive support.
Alongside their dedicated maths programme, we encourage our pupils to immerse themselves in the enormous range of extra-curricular activities available through Belmont and Mill Hill. These range from team sports including rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, to individual pursuits such as tennis, swimming and fitness.
There will also be opportunities in music and drama, with pupils able to learn instruments, join orchestras, ensembles, bands, and choirs, and take part in performances. The schools have excellent facilities including an all-weather pitch, a large sports complex, a theatre and an indoor swimming pool. Activities and clubs will not only help them explore their interests but also foster confidence, self-esteem, and a strong sense of belonging.
Mill Hill has a very experienced boarding team, with four Boarding Houses, led by dedicated Housemasters and Housemistresses that are home to over 220 boarders. Here, pupils experience a warm, home-away-from-home atmosphere, fostering intercultural respect and a strong sense of community.
At the 1729 Maths School, we offer the opportunity for pupils to board from Year 7 onwards, either as full or weekly boarders. Our boarders will live in a dedicated 1729 Maths School House and will also be part of the wider Belmont and Mill Hill boarding family.
