- 1729 students receive almost 11 and a half hours of Mathematics every week. That includes over 8 hours of timetabled Mathematics, alongside a further 3 hours of electives including Olympiad training, problem-solving clubs, advanced geometry, seminars and advanced mathematical exploration.
- When fully open, only around 150–180 students will work daily with 10 full-time specialist mathematicians, alongside resident PhD students and visiting academics, many of whom will work directly inside Contemporary Mathematics lessons. This allows students to pursue ideas much more deeply and independently than is possible in conventional classrooms, with multiple experts able to extend and challenge thinking in real time.
- 1729 students belong simultaneously to a tiny specialist mathematical school and to the full sporting, musical, pastoral, co-curricular and boarding life of Mill Hill and Belmont. That combination is exceptionally rare internationally.
- More than half of the students joining 1729 in September 2026 will receive bursary support, with around one third attending on fully funded places. The school is being built around mathematical potential rather than financial background.
- 1729 is not being built simply as a high-performing school. Its long-term ambition is to become a genuine centre of mathematical culture: a place associated with serious mathematical discussion, open problem sessions, camps, seminars, visiting researchers, returning alumni and a lasting intellectual community extending far beyond the classroom itself.
- At 1729, mathematical conversations are not expected to stop when lessons end. In fact, we are already beginning to suspect that our lunch breaks may simply be too short for students to finish their arguments about problems! We are working on it and will certainly dedicate a member of staff to make sure they actually eat!
