1729 Maths School proudly hosted the EPSCA National Primary Schools Chess Championship semi-final at Mill Hill School on Sunday 17 May 2026.
Organised by the English Primary Schools’ Chess Association (EPSCA) and run by the National Schools' Championship Controller, Angela Eyton, the competition brought together talented young chess players from schools across the region to compete in one of the most prestigious primary school chess events in the country.
The EPSCA National Primary Schools Chess Championships (NPSCC) is a long-running national competition for under 11 teams, alongside the Inter-Association Championships. The event at Mill Hill School formed part of the semi-final stage of the national competition.
Over 400 participants attended and competed in the tournament. Players at the semi-final demonstrated inspiring commitment and incisive technique.
The top two teams from each semi-final will qualify for the final stage of the competition, which will be held over two days on 27-28 June 2026 at the Science Museum, London.
Hosting the competition reflects 1729 Maths School’s continued commitment to supporting enrichment and problem-solving for young people.
Nick Hamshaw, 1729 Founding Head, said “There has been no better demonstration of the sparks that can fly when you bring brilliant young minds together.”
