At 1729 Maths School, we ignite a passion for maths through a world-class learning experience, which is shaped around each student’s talents and interests. From age 11, students are encouraged to think, question and create like mathematicians. Students are taught maths by 1729’s teaching faculty, comprising expert teachers and academics, with other subjects benefitting from Mill Hill's outstanding provision.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities beyond the curriculum, including maths circles, guest lectures and Olympiad training.

Maths is at the heart of everything we do at 1729. Our students study maths deeply, with more than eight hours of timetabled maths each week and two and a half hours of maths-related activities outside the main timetable. By contrast, students at other secondary schools typically have no more than four hours of maths lessons each week.
Our approach to teaching maths is unique among UK schools, combining classroom teaching and university-style learning. National exams are covered thoroughly, but always within a richer, more connected programme that cultivates deep mathematical understanding and intuition. Our small class sizes mean that we know every student personally, and understand how best to challenge and inspire them.
Our students have a further three hours of optional maths-related activities outside the main timetable. Three days a week, 1729 sets aside an hour for mathematical activities such as guest lectures, Olympiad training and problem-solving clubs alongside other maths-related activities such as chess and robotics. If students elect to participate in these, they will enjoy over 11 hours of maths or maths-related activities each week.
From Year 7 onwards, students at 1729 are taught maths and computer science together by 1729's teaching faculty. From Year 9, they are taught science in 1729 groups, led by Mill Hill's outstanding teachers. For all other subjects, they are taught in wider groups within Belmont Prep and Mill Hill.
Our students follow a similar timetable to Belmont Prep for years 7-8 and Mill Hill for years 9-13. However, to enable 1729's expansive maths programme, we make some adjustments to the normal timetable.

A breakdown of time devoted to each subject is outlined in the links below
The curriculum models outlined above are indicative of 1729’s increased focus on maths but may be subject to change as the school grows and evolves or if, for example, the Belmont Prep or Mill Hill timetables change. Irrespective of any alterations, 1729 students will always receive a full and balanced curriculum with maths at its core.
Students at 1729 Maths School will take a minimum of nine subjects at GCSE. The compulsory subjects are maths, physics, chemistry, biology, English language and English literature. Students can then select three further subjects. Students who have studied computer science independently and are confident in the material may wish to sit this subject as an additional GCSE. Similarly, we are likely to offer the Level 2 Further Maths qualification which is not technically a GCSE but bridges the gap between GCSE and A-level Maths.
